ban·yan (ban-yan) n. an East Indian fig tree (Ficus benghalensis) of the mulberry family with spreading branches that send out shoots which grow down to the soil and root to form secondary trunks.

Lyman Grant

2006 Banyan Review Poetry Competition Judge

Lyman Grant was born in Birmingham, Alabama then moved to Texas in 1960. He teaches creative writing at Austin Community College where he is currently serving as Interim Dean of Arts and Humanities.

His poems have appeared in Sulphur River Review, Cider Press Review, Texas Observer, Indefinite Space, The Cortland Review and other journals, and in the anthologies Best Texas Writing (Rancho Loco Press, 1997), Feeding the Crow (Plain View Press, 1998), and Is This Forever, Or What? (Greenwillow, 2004).
