Night Often Walks Slowly

by Kenneth Pobo

even when a June wind
prods it. Death goads us,
says "Run!" I slow down,

walk. Moon, a crumpled
white kerchief. Darkness
picks up the pace, sprints
into dawn. Night, dead

in a rose's mouth. Morning
creeps along a crow's wing.
